O PREDSTAVI

ABOUT THE PLAY
Pas de deux is one of the basic ballet structures in which two solo artists, a male and a female present the full range of its virtuosity. Raimund Hoghe’s work, one of the most recognizable contemporary European artists and an exceptional German dancer and choreographer as well, along with the equally excellent Japanese dancer Takashi Ueno go beyond the traditional ballet form with Hoghe’s hump which doesn’t go along with our traditional notion of how should a dancer body look like and by that he challenges our attitude to norms. Hoghe moves cautiously and carefully, calmly, but fiercely, every movement is impeccable and full of drama. Ueno is agile and gentle, capable to jump sincerely in a moment while in the next to draw delicate patterns with his hands. During the performance, a dialogue is built all the time regarding the similarities and differences between Europe and Japan, and as well as the relationship between two individuals - at times one is reflection of the other, sometimes not at all. Duality, diversity, symmetry and contrasts at the same time physical manifestation of intimacy of the couple, definitely mesmerises us. The idea that arises from the show is the idea of communication and bridging the gap of the ethnic and national origin, sex or sexuality. In this show much more important than in other Hoghe’s works is the music which is full of emotions and memories ranging from classical to western POP music. Every minute of this two-hour show no matter whether is a prolonged silence or stylized theatricality, contributes to the trance-like feeling with which the show leaves us with.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Raimund Hoghe was born in Wuppertal, Germany. Once a writer and journalist at the beginning of his career he was working for the German newspaper Die Zeit. He wrote portraits of various individuals, from those on the margins of society to the ones from the show business which were later published in several books. In 1979, he wrote a piece on choreographer Pina Bausch, followed by a ten-year collaboration with Bausch’s renowned Tanztheater Wuppertal Dance Theatre, where Hoghe worked as a playwright. In 1989, he started to create theatrical works for a numerous actors and dancers, while in 1992 began a long collaboration with Luca Giacomo Schulte, with whom he closely collaborates even today. In 1994, he decided to put his body on stage with the solo Meinwärts which were along with Chambre séparée (1997) and Another Dream (2000), later formulated in a trilogy of 20 century. The motive for many of his group work has been his interest in the iconic classic scores. He has created a lot of dance pieces and worked on television projects. Apart from his numerous influences, such as the Japanese theatre and rituals, several of his works provide us with primary interest in photography and visual arts. His shows have been performed throughout Europe, Australia, Japan and the United States. They received a number of prestigious awards, such as the French Prix de la Critique in 2006 and dancer award in 2008 from the magazine Tanz.
