About project:
Project Between the Dust of Home and the Winds of Far Away explores the feeling of moving between worlds – between roots and foreign places, between memory and the moment, between belonging and loss. It is a contemporary dance piece that stems from personal experience of migration and the inner conflict between the place where one grew up and the place where one now seeks their position.
It touches on themes such as identity, memory, culture, migration, and bodily rhythm, questioning what it means for a home that can no longer be reached. Movement becomes a way of returning – a way in which the body carries stories, language, and rhythms that words cannot express.
A single rhythm – an imperfect yet real 7/8 meter, deeply rooted in the dancer’s essence – intertwines with the movement of contemporary dance. Through this fusion, the pain and longing felt by anyone carried away to an unknown place, far from home, are revealed.
The answer to this pain, embedded in the silent questions "Where am I? Who am I?", lies between the dust of home and the winds of the distant, in the moment when one realizes that home is not a place, but a rhythm, a sound, a breath that one carries within.
The movements that speak in the silence of the unknown space echo something familiar, becoming a map of memory – a reminder of belonging. In steps that gently return to traditional patterns, the old and new intertwine; the dance changes but does not lose its roots.
And it is this uneven, imperfect, yet authentic 7/8 rhythm that continuously brings the dancer back to herself, realizing that home is not a physical space but a rhythm carried within us. Home is not there, nor here, but somewhere in between in the rhythm that the heart never forgets.
O projektu:
Projekt Between the Dust of Home and the Winds of Far Away raziskuje občutek premikanja med svetovi – med koreninami in tujino, med spominom in trenutkom, med pripadnostjo in izgubo.

About author:
Elena Nikolovska is a Slovenian-Macedonian dancer and choreographer who explores how rhythm, movement, and culture coexist in the body as forms of memory and identity. She began her dance journey at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana, continued at the Secondary Preschool Teacher Training School, the Gymnasium, and the Art Gymnasium Ljubljana (SVŠGUGL), and completed her studies at the Institute of Contemporary Dance IDA – Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz.
During her studies, she began to discover how culture and rhythm can become a bridge between tradition and contemporary movement – how the steps of childhood transform into a new language of the body. In her artistic practice, she intertwines personal stories with the exploration of rhythmic structures, particularly the 7/8 meter, which she understands as the pulse of memory, roots, and belonging.
As a dancer, she has collaborated with various choreographers and performed at numerous festivals and stages, including the Opus Festival, Leicht über Linz, Festival Živa, Graz Tanztage, Ars Electronica Center Linz, and other international projects. Her works are known for their sensitive intertwining of physical and emotional rhythm, as well as for their sincere exploration of identity through movement.
Her latest piece, Between the Dust of Home and the Winds of Far Away, is an intimate exploration of home as a feeling that the body never truly leaves – as a sound, breath, and movement that continually return us to ourselves.
O Avtorici:
Njeno najnovejše delo, Between the Dust of Home and the Winds of Far Away, je intimno raziskovanje doma kot občutka, ki ga telo nikoli zares ne zapusti – kot zvoka, diha in gibanja, ki nas vedno znova vračajo k sebi.
