About project:
The theater play The Shroud Maker by Palestinian author Ahmed Masoud is a sarcastic, almost surreal narrative told by a witness of long-standing horrors in Palestine. The author drew inspiration for the text, created in 2018, from a real woman from Gaza, who, despite the bombings, ran an open shop selling death covers. The eighty-year-old lady may no longer be alive today. In the play, she becomes Hadži Suad, a symbol of resistance and defiance of the Palestinian people. A dramatic character who, due to the horrific reality in which her people are trapped, remains eternally alive, much like the Palestinian Mother Courage.

"In light of the flood of media information about events in Gaza, The Shroud maker does not tackle the war in a documentary way, but rather through an intimate narrative. The protagonist does not shine before us as a good soul in a bad world, but as a person who must navigate through the war, thus creating a complex character with internal contradictions. The audience does not receive the expected moralistic admonishment, but rather a deeply sad feeling of helplessness and a reminder that the peace in which we currently live only means that the war is happening somewhere else." Gledališka predstava Izdelovalka mrtvaških prtov palestinskega avtorja Ahmeda Masuda je sarkastična, skoraj nadrealistična pripoved pričevalke dolgoletnih grozot v Palestini. Avtor je navdih za besedilo, ki je nastalo leta 2018, črpal pri resnični ženski iz Gaze, ki je, bombardiranju navkljub, imela odprto trgovino z mrtvaškimi prti. Takrat osemdesetletna gospa, danes morda ni več živa. V drami pa postane Hadži Suad. Simbol odpora in nepodredljivosti palestinskega ljudstva. Dramska oseba, ki zaradi strašne resničnosti, v katero je ujet njen narod, kot palestinska Mati Korajža ostaja živa za vedno.

“Ob poplavi medijskih informacij o dogodkih v Gazi se Izdelovalka mrtvaških prtov vojne ne loti na dokumentarni način, temveč z intimno pripovedjo /…/ [P]rotagonistka pred nami ne zasije kot dobra duša v slabem svetu, temveč kot človek, ki se v času vojne mora znajti, kar ustvarja kompleksen lik z notranjimi protislovji.
